Check to see if you selected the right language for your search: Search in Ojibwe or Search in English.
Check if your spelling is correct.
If you are searching in English and get no results, try using a word with a similar meaning. For example, if you searched using the English word “huge” or “large” and got no results, try the word “big”.
If your search term identifies something that is relatively new, there might not yet be a widely accepted term for it in Ojibwe. For example, there is no widely accepted word yet for “yogurt” in Ojibwe, although there may be several that have proposed in different communities.
The Ojibwe People’s Dictionary is a work in progress and new entries, new keywords for searching, and new audio recordings are added frequently. Let us know what’s missing and we will try to add it.

Speakers & Regions Key
Individual speakers and speakers from different regions use different words when speaking. Each audio recording is marked with the initials of the Ojibwe speaker. Click on a speaker's initials to go to the speaker's bio page. If an Ojibwe word is particular to a certain region, it will be marked with a region code. Click on the region code to go to the Regions page.
