There is no simple independent word for hair. A personal prefix goes with the dependent noun stem /=iinizis-/ strand of hair to make a full word:
  • niinizis my strand of hair (1s-0s)
  • giinizis your strand of hair (2s-0s)
  • wiinizis h/ strand of hair (3s-0s); some people have an alternate form owiinizis
The English collective hair referring to all of the hair on one's head uses a plural form in Ojibwe:
  • niinizisan my hair (1s-0s)
  • giinizisan your hair (2s-0s)
  • wiinizisan h/ hair (3s-0s); some people have an alternate form owiinizisan
